APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • UMON writer program HSIZ0203 has E15 and E35 SORT exits which
    may erroneously return control to SORT in supervisor state. This
    causes a problem when SORT issues IARV64 macros with a usertoken
    because the token value will not pass validity checking for
    supervisor state.

Local fix

  • Allocate a DFSPARM file to a data set or member and supply a
    SORT option override of OPTION MOSIZE=0 to instruct DFSORT to
    not use memory objects.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: ABENDDC2 RSN0038 causes the SORT of *
    * Usage Monitor data to fail. *
    *                                                              *
    * Redundant WTO messages are issued when *
    * a switch is queued behind an active *
    *                      writer task.                            *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When DFSORT is invoked by the Usage Monitor writer task and it
    attempts to use memory object space as a sort work area, it can
    abend with code SDC2 reason 0038. This happens because the user
    token used for IARV64 requests is invalid for supervisor state.
    A Usage Monitor SORT exit incorrectly returned control to SORT
    in supervisor state which is not expected by DFSORT.

    When the collection repository fills up while a writer task is
    already running, it is possible for thousands of HSIZ019I,
    HSIZ039I and HSIZ040I WTO message cycles to occur at machine
    speed. These messages are redundant, and may flood WTO buffers.

Problem conclusion

  • HSIZ0203 E15/E35 SORT exit code is changed to ensure that
    problem state is in effect whenever control is returned to SORT.

    HSIZMON code is changed to only wait on the writer task and
    command ECBs while a writer task is active with a queued switch.
