Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All Tivoli NetView for z/OS users of the * * SNMPVIEW command or AON. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Two problems are being reported here: * * 1. When viewing the SNMPVIEW command * * input panel FKXK2800, selecting the "Go * * to the details" entry, and entering a 4 * * digit interface number, the following * * msgEZL275E is issued: * * EZL275E FKXE2800 FAILED - LINE 450 * * SYNTAX ERROR 40 * * 2. If a host name is entered on panel * * FKXK2800 and it resolves to an IPv6 * * address, the following msgFKX985I is * * issued: * * FKX985I TCP/IP IS UNABLE TO RESOLVE * * HOSTNAME hostname * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** 1. The input field for 'Interface' on the 'Go to the details' on panel FKXK2800 is longer than the code expects it to be. So when the calculation for the number underscores needed to fill the field is performed, a minus value results which is an argument on a REXX copies function. This is what causes the syntax error resulting in message EZL275E. 2. The SNMPVIEW command calls FKXEGHBN to resolve the host name to an IP address. If NetView supports IPv6 addresses, an IPv6 address will be returned, if one exists, otherwise an IPv4 address may be returned. SNMPVIEW does not support IPv6 addresses and has code to check the IP address returned by FKXEGHBN for an IPv4 address. If it is not an IPv4 address, message FKX985I is issued.
Problem conclusion
1. Panel FKXK2800 field for 'Interface' is being shortened to be consistent with the code so that a negative number will not be possible and thus prevent the syntax error. 2. FKXEGHBN is being changed to accept an optional parameter to indicate if a particular IP address family is requested. The possible values are 'INET', 'INET6', and 'UNSPEC'. If an IP address in the requested address family cannot be returned, a null value is returned. FKXE2800 is being changed to add 'INET' as the optional parameter to its call of FKXEGHBN. If a null value is returned, FKXE2800 issues the FKX985I message. Also, the following NetView publication changes should be made: In the Tivoli NetView for z/OS USER'S GUIDE: AUTOMATED OPERATIONS NETWORK (SC27-2866-00), Part 3. Using AON with TCP/IP, Chapter 17. Using the AON/TCP Operator Interface, topic TCP/IP for z/OS, subtopic SNMPVIEW, second paragraph, add the following to the end of the paragraph: "However, the SNMPView function does not support IPv6 addressing." In the Tivoli NetView for z/OS COMMAND REFERENCE VOLUME 2 (O-Z) (SC27-2848-02), Chapter 2. NetView Commands and Command Descriptions, under the section labeled "SMNPVIEW", add the following as the last item under "Restrictions": "The SNMPView function does not support IPv6 addressing."
