    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: SMF record type 28 subtype 220 is built *
    * to record CSM storage usage data. It is *
    * meant to contain 4 buffer pools in the *
    * address space and 4 buffer pools in a *
    * data space. However, 5 address space *
    *                      pools (of size 4K, 16K, 32K, 60K and    *
    * 180K) and 3 data space pools (of size *
    *                      4K, 16K and 32K) are recorded.          *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    NPM was designed to record CSM buffer pools with sizes 4K, 16K,
    32K and 60K, in both CSM's address space and its data space.
    However, in a previous release of z/OS, CSM implemented an
    additional buffer pool of size 180K. When NPM requests and
    interprets the CSM buffer pool data retrieved from VTAM, it
    assumes there will be information about the 8 buffer pools that
    it is expecting, laid out sequentially. Because VTAM returned
    information about 10 buffer pools, NPM retrieves the first 8,
    which includes 5 pools from the address space and only 3 from
    the data space. This is reflected in SMF record 28 subtype 220.

Problem conclusion

  • Module FNMVTMC1 is being changed to check the buffer pool sizes
    that are returned from VTAM and to only pick up data that
    matches one of the 4 sizes for which NPM was designed to report.
