Error description
Reduce cpu overhead for Omegamon II Storage light when real storage thresholds are not set.
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All OMEGAMON XE ON Z/OS users. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: 1. High cpu usage in the Omegamon * * Realtime Collector task when the * * Omegamon II Storage light is * * refreshed. * * 2. High cpu usage in the Omegamon * * Realtime Collector or TEMS tasks * * when the XCSA or XECS exceptions are * * invoked. * * 3. High cpu usage in the TEMS task in * * csect KM3RSASM when the Real Storage * * workspace is invoked. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the PTF. * **************************************************************** 1. In environments with a large amount of real storage, the code to report on real storage frames can use a lot of cpu. The code is run even when the thresholds for real storage use are not enabled. 2. The XCSA and XECS exceptions scan through every block of CSA and ECSA storage which can be cpu intensive. 3. The code to report on real storage is cpu intensive and executes every time the Real Storage workspace is invoked by a TEP user or situation.
Problem conclusion
1. Modify the code to only run the real storage analysis when the following Omegamon II real storage thresholds are set: Central storage online, Available frame queue low 2. Modify the code to use CSA/Analyzer data if available instead of scanning common storage control blocks. 3. Modify the code to only gather new data on real storage control blocks after 60 seconds have passed. Multiple users and situations will receive the same data during that time interval.
Temporary fix
********* * HIPER * ********* UNTIL THIS PTF IS APPLIED, THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS CAN REDUCE CPU. IN OMEGAMON II, TURN OFF THE STORAGE LIGHT IN THE TEP, DISABLE OR INCREASE THE INTERVAL TIME FOR SITUATIONS THAT MONITOR COMMON STORAGE OR REAL STORAGE.
