LO90143: EAS DEVICES SYNCING FOLDERS TOGETHER MAY MISS SOME MAILS IF NEXT SYNC INTERRUPTS A SYNC AND HAS DIFFERENT FOLDERS INCLUDED
Direct links to fixes
Closed as program error.
A device using Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) to synchronize data could miss emails (or other data) if the following situation takes place. 1. The device makes a request to sync N folders. 2. The server is working on new mails to be synced in those folders. 3. The device makes a request to sync a different set of folders (it cannot be the same set of N folders as in #1 or you won't hit the issue - it must be a different set). 4. The server interrupts the sync from #1 when the request from #3 is received. 5. The server responds to the sync from #3 but the mails that were detected as part of sync #1 are missing. Because of the requirement that the sync folders be different between the two syncs, this only impacts devices that sync multiple folders in the same sync request, so that at least excludes the Apple iOS devices which always syncs each folder separately. BlackBerry 10 and some Windows Phone/Tablet devices are known to sync in the required manner to hit this issue, so they could be subject to this happening. This issue is specific to the EAS sync paths, so the Android and Apple iOS Verse clients which use SyncML as the sync protocol are not subject to this issue.
This scenario is a fairly rare timing issue with applications using the Active Sync Protocl such as the Apple built in Mail client.
The IBM Traveler server has been updated to resolve this issue.
This fix will be included in IBM Traveler 18.104.22.168 and later releases. For the lastest available Traveler Server release see this technote: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24019529
