Comments

  • This APAR is associated with SPR# SEGN974F8K.
For 9.0 the memory management scheme was changed for the MIME
to CD converter's HTML parser to reduce the number of handles
used during conversion. The parser was changed to make
pool-based allocations rather than handle based allocations,
greatly reducing the number of handles required for large HTML
entities. For example, the number of handles required in
extreme cases is now less than .1% of the number previously
required. However, there was a bug in the parser's
implementation of the pool based scheme: one string, which
was not allocated using the pool-based memory manager but
rather the handle-based, was freed as if it had been allocated
from the pool. Sometimes this would crash us immediately as
the free routine would detect that the memory block was not
part of the pool, sometimes this detection would not work and
we would crash later when we tried to free the entire pool
(corruption took place during the errant free) and sometimes
we may not have crashed at all. This change fixes that bug,
freeing the handle based memory correctly, and it also insures
that if any other parser code ever calls the pool based free
incorrectly, we will Panic in non-production and gracefully
     return an error in production.
