Error description
SPR# PBIT84XBR8 is fixed in Notes 8.5.3 FP2 with Notes.ini parameter "OS_DisableMMapFileCopy=1". (Technote #1429475) "OS_DisableMMapFileCopy=1" works fine when ID Vault is operating and user.id file is missing from Notes data directory on a network share on a Windows Server 2008. However, "Could not open the ID file" displays when user log in to Notes with a new password reset by ID Vault. Scenario: - Lotus Notes 8.5.3 FP2 installed on Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008. - Lotus notes data directory on a network share on a Windows Server 2008. - OS_DisableMMapFileCopy=1 is set in Notes.ini. - Lotus notes started with shortcut "c:\Program Files\IBM\Louts\notes\notes.exe" =z:\notes\data\notes.ini (Where z: is mapped to \\fileserver\fileshare) - ID Vault is configured and operating - Security Settings Policy - 'Password Management' - 'Password Management Basic' - Check password on Notes id file: Yes 'ID Vault' - Assigned vault: <ID Vault name> Enforce password change after password has been reset: No Allow automatic ID downloads: Yes - Vaulted user document - Administration tab -> Check Password: Check password - ID file is downloaded via ID Vault in z:\notes\data. Steps to reproduce: 1. Administrator Client opens 'People and Groups' tab - People view. 2. Select a user - 'Tools' - 'ID Vault' - Reset password. 3. Enter new password and reset password. 4. Start Notes8.5.3 FP2 installed on Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 and log in with the reset password. 5. Notes fails when trying to re-create or update the ID file in the data directory and presents the following error message: "Could not open the ID file" 6. Click OK and select Exit Notes in Option dialogue box. - Try to log in again - Switch to a different User ID - Try to recover your password X Exit Notes 7. Start Notes Client with shortcut and you see "Chose file to be used as current User ID". => Click OK and you see the following message. "The specified ID file has been corrupted, or is not an ID file" => Click Cancel and you are prompted for a password. You can log in with the new reset password. ---------- In the event log on the client side you will find the following event: Log Name: System Source: mrxsmb Date: xxxxx Event ID: 50 Task Category: None Level: Warning Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: xxxxx Description: {Delayed Write Failed} Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \xxxx\data\user.id. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.
Local fix
In the Notes.ini on redirect the ID file to a local disk within the notes.ini:KeyFileName=c:\users\xxx\user.id
