Error description

  • Setting DISABLE_DIR_DEL_IF_EMPTY in notes.ini has side effect of
    Full text
    index not being deleted

To prevent unmounting SAN-Luns, customer is using the following
    notes.ini
    parameter:

    DISABLE_DIR_DEL_IF_EMPTY=1

What happens after implementing above parameter is that if you
    choose to
disable a full text index from a database, the folder structure
    from the full
text is still there and the Full text index is not deleted

    Steps to reproduce:

    - Install 8.5 Domino server:

    - Create a Full Text Index for a database placed in a
    subdirectory for example
    C:\notes\data\test\database.nsf

    - You can see the Full Text index files in this subdirectory
    C:\notes\data\test\database.ft
    - From the Database> Properties > Full Text Tab> Click on the
    button "delete
Index" and the files for the full text index were correctly
    deleted.

Add the server notes.ini parameter DISABLE_DIR_DEL_IF_EMPTY=1
    and restart the
    server

    - Recreate again the Full Text Index for the sample database,
    and you can see
again the Full Text index directory
    C:\notes\data\test\database.ft

    - Delete the full text index From the Database> Properties> Full
    Text Tab>
"delete Index" and this time the full text index directory and
    files included
on it remains and do not get removed when
trying to delete the full text index. The database.ft is
    still on
    "C:\notes\data\test\database.ft" . Checking the database,
    seems that the
index has been removed, and the database shows not indexed, but
    the files have
not been removed at operating system level

    - The same results are obtained if I create and delete the index
    from the
Domino Administrator Client > Files Tab.

    Selecting the Database

Selecting on the tools> Database> Full Text Index> Delete

    - The same behaviour happens if there is more than one database
    in the
    directory with full text index
    for example:
    C:\notes\data\test\database1.nsf
    C:\notes\data\test\database1.ft
    C:\notes\data\test\database2.nsf
    C:\notes\data\test\database2.ft
When deleting the Full text index for database1.nsf and
    database2.nsf the files
for the full text index is not being cleared at operating system
    level when
    notes.ini DISABLE_DIR_DEL_IF_EMPTY=1 is in place

    - If you delete C:\notes\data\test\database.ft manually at
    Operating System
Level the files are correctly deleted.

    - If you use some script functions for example "If
    DB.IsFTIndexed Then" You
got an error that the index must be rebuild.

Notes ini parameter is documented on SPR # PBIT554KUV

Local fix

  • delete C:\notes\data\test\database.ft manually at Operating
    System
Level the files are correctly deleted.
