LI77202: INTERNAL DATABASE CORRUPTION MAY OCCUR ON AN APPLIANCE AND CAUSE UNRESPONSIVE WMC AND RUNTIME FAILURES

APAR status

Error description

• The appliance Web Management Console (WMC) performance slowly
  degrades, and jobs sometimes may end up accumulating above the
  "Completed jobs count" trigger specified under Logs > Job Logs >
  Settings > Purger.
  After some time, users will not see any more projects shown in
  the Web Management Console interface, and instead see database
  transaction errors (e.g. Transaction not successfully started).
  Even while the WMC is unusable, some projects may continue to
  run, and accept jobs, but most will not complete successfully
  because the internal logging database is not available.

Problem summary

• In WebSphere Cast Iron 6.3.0.0 the appliance job purger was
  optimized to perform faster.
  This had the side effect of triggering compaction of the
  internal jobs log database more often. As a result, the internal
  jobs log database can become corrupt during compaction at
  times of high activity.
  

Problem conclusion

• The fix for this issue is targeted for WebSphere Cast Iron
  V6.3.0.1 and V6.1.0.15 fix packs
