Compiling the provided test case hangs with -O3. -V shows that the hang is in IPA step. xlf95_r -F:mpxlf95_r -q64 -WF,-q64 -qsuffix=cpp=f90 -qsuppress=1500-036 -O3 -qlist -qreport -qarch=pwr6 -qtune=balanced -qcache=auto -qfloat=fltint -qzerosize -qessl -bdatapsize:64k -bstackpsize:64k -qsmp=omp -qdirective -qextname -WF,-D__AIX,-D_AIX,-Dextname,-D_EXTNAME,-D__prism,-Duse_comm_MPI 1,-D__cpl_mpiom,-D__cpl_co2 -c mo_midatm.f90 -O2 works.
Local fix
Use -O2 instead.
Problem summary
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Compiling user programs containing consecutive MEM_DELAY directives with -O3 hangs during compilation. USERS AFFECTED: Fortran programs containing consecutive MEM_DELAY directives and compiles at -O3.
Problem conclusion
Added the code to handle the consecutive calls to mem_dealy to avoid the splitting of them during loop distribution. problem is fixed.
