APAR status

Error description

• ipa64 abends with -O3 for a test case with V9 and
  V10.1 XL C/C++ for AIX compiler.
  
  It works with V7, V8 and V11.1.
  
  
  1586-346 (U) An error occurred during code generation.  The code
  generation return code was 40.
  

Local fix

• Use -O2
  

Problem summary

• PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: ICE when compiling at -O3 and above.
  
  USERS AFFECTED: One of the internal compiler tables is grown
  but not large enough causing an invalid memory reference later
  on. The internal table that is grown is in inter-procedural
  register allocation. The situation happens at -O3 and above.
  

Problem conclusion

• Problem is fixed. Apply applicable service.
