LI75689: INTERNAL COMPILER ERROR WITH -O4

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When compiling an application, the compiler is encountering an
  internal compiler error when using -qhot or optimization level
  -O4.  The output of the error is:
  
  $ xlC -O4 foo.cpp
  Calling signal handler...
  1586-494 (U) INTERNAL COMPILER ERROR: Signal 11.
  

Local fix

• - Compile with a lower optimization level, or
  - Compile with a lower -qhot level, i.e. -qhot=level=0
  

Problem summary

• USERS AFFECTED:
  Users of IPA at optimization levels of -O3 and above for
  programs for which the compiler is doing loop optimizations.
  
  PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
  Internal compiler error during variable analysis.
  

Problem conclusion

• The unexpected condition that was encountered was fixed by
  additional checking.  The issue was corrected.
