APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The compiler is keeping debug symbols for template
meta-programming types that exist only during the compile. For
some programs, these debug symbols represent a significant part
    of the binary.

Local fix

  • N/A

Problem summary

  • Template meta-types are classes that contain no members other
than enums, enumerators, static member variables, static member
    functions, or typedefs.

These classes are meant to do computation at compile-time, so
their debug information is likely unnecessary and can be
eliminated to reduce the size of the debug section.

Problem conclusion

  • Under option control, the user can chose to eliminate debug
    symbols for meta template types:
    -qxflag=NoKeepDebugMetaTemplateType
