Error description

  • When you start or run a business process definition (BPD) or
case instance, the instance fails. In the SystemOut.log file,
you find a transaction error similar to this error:

Local fix

Problem summary

  • When the navigation of a BPD or case instance reaches a user
task, the members of the team the task is assigned to are
authorized to work with the document attachments of the process
instance and the case folder of the case instance. The IBM BPM
document store calls the Federated Repositories API. A failure
in such an API call causes the global transaction running the
BPD or case instance to be marked to be rolled back. However,
the IBM BPM document store expects an exception in certain
    situations and recovers from it.

Problem conclusion

  • A fix will be included in an IBM BPM V8.5.6 cumulative fix that
changes the Federated Repository API invocations to run in a
local transaction so that the BPD navigation transaction is no
longer marked to be rolled back when the lookup fails and throws
an exception the IBM BPM document store expects. The global
transaction of the BPD or case instance navigation is kept
    active.

To determine whether the cumulative fix is available and
download it if it is, complete the following steps on Fix
    Central:

    1. Select IBM Business Process Manager with your edition from
the product selector, the installed version to the fix pack
level, and your platform, and then click Continue.

    2. Select Text, enter ?cumulative fix?, and click Continue.
