Error description

  • If you are using an email client with an encoding setting other
than UTF-8, and you receive an email notification from the IBM
Business Process Manager (BPM) server for a task that has been
assigned to you, you might see unexpected characters at the top
of the email body, above the Task Details header bar.

    PRODUCTS AFFECTED
    IBM BPM Advanced
    IBM BPM Standard
    IBM BPM Express

Local fix

  • Configure your email client to use UTF-8 encoding.

Problem summary

  • Task notification email template files that are included with
IBM BPM might contain a byte order mark (BOM) sequence (three
bytes with hexadecimal values 0xEF, 0xBB, and 0xBF) at the
beginning of the file to designate the file as being UTF-8
encoded. If your email client is not configured to use UTF-8
encoding, this BOM sequence might be interpreted as a literal
set of display characters. As a result, you see unexpected
characters displayed above the body of the task notification
    email.

Problem conclusion

  • A fix is available for IBM BPM V8.5.0.1 that removes the BOM
sequence from the body of the task notification email before it
is sent, eliminating the unexpected characters.
