Error description

  • When you trigger a boundary event on a coach, the navigation
might fail with an exception. Depending on the human service
model, an error handler might be triggered. Without an error
handler, the service fails and you see an exception in the
    SystemOut.log file:

The problem occurs only when the coach you are looking at
previously triggered another boundary event, causing the
navigation to come back to itself. During this navigation, a
property of an item in a complex object array was set to null.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • When a coach navigates to itself, the coach is not refreshed.
Instead, only the data that changed during the navigation is
sent back to the browser client. When the changed data includes
a property of a complex object that is set to null, and this
property is part of a list, this property is incorrectly set to
an empty array. The next boundary event then sends this
incorrect data back to the server where it cannot be mapped.

Problem conclusion

  • A fix is available for IBM BPM that returns the correct value.
