JR51383: DELETED GROUPS HANDLED INCONSISTENTLY IN REST APIS

Error description

  • IBM Business Process Manager (BPM) REST APIs for Group and
Groups do not handle deleted user groups consistently. When the
?Groups? resource is called to query a list of user groups,
deleted groups are filtered from the result. The ?Group?
resource however returns the requested group regardless of
whether it is active or deleted.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • When groups are deleted from IBM BPM, they are never physically
removed but merely flagged as deleted. Although this approach
effectively makes these deleted groups unavailable for most use
cases, there are scenarios in which information about deleted
    groups is useful.

Older IBM BPM releases did not consider the deletion information
in the Group and Groups REST resources, returning active as well
as deleted groups for both with no way to tell them apart. IBM
BPM V8.0.1.3 introduced a new behavior for the Groups resource
that filters deleted groups from the result, which makes the
resource more suitable to common use cases but introduced an
inconsistency within the APIs and removed the possibility to
query for deleted groups at all.

Problem conclusion

  • A fix is available for IBM BPM V8.0.1.3 that provides the
    following benefits:

    - Changes the default behavior of the Group resource to
disregard deleted groups, which brings back consistency within
     the API
    - Introduces a new parameter (includeDeleted) for both the Group
and Groups resources that, when set to ?true?, includes
     deleted groups in the result
    - Introduces a new group attribute (deleted) that indicates for
each returned group whether the group is active (?false?) or
     deleted (?true?)
