Error description

  • USERS CAN INVOKE A DEFAULT ECM SEARCH SERVICE BY USING ANY QUERY
    TO OBTAIN A LIST OF DOCUMENTS INCLUDING DOCUMENT PROPERTIES
    
    An Ajax service that is shipped with the Content Management
    toolkit allows users to search for IBM Business Process Manager
    document attachments from the Document List coach control.
    Authenticated users can invoke the default Enterprise Content
    Management (ECM) search service. The service accepts any
    document query as input. For example, users might invoke the
    service by using a query that incorrectly returns all documents
    including associated document properties.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • By accepting any document query as input parameters, the service
    might incorrectly return a list of all documents, including
    associated document properties, which might not be desirable
    behavior. Access to document content is restricted so that only
    users who are authorized to work with a process instance can
    view contents of documents that are attached to that process
    instance. However, sensitive information might be stored in
    document properties. Therefore, the default ECM search service
    must not return user-defined document properties.
    

Problem conclusion

  • A fix is available for IBM BPM V8.5.0.1 and V8.5.5.0 that
    updates the service to ignore user-provided select and from
    clauses. As a result, a user can use the service to obtain a
    list of documents, but only the predefined set of document
    properties (such as document name) will be returned.
    User-defined document properties are no longer available from
    the default search service.
    
    On Fix Central (http://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral), search
    for JR50871:
    
    1. Select IBM Business Process Manager with your edition from
    the product selector, the installed version to the fix pack
    level, and your platform, and then click Continue.
    2. Select APAR or SPR, enter JR50871, and click Continue.
    
    When you download fix packages, ensure that you also download
    the readme file for each fix. Review each readme file for
    additional installation instructions and information about the
    fix.
