APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • After booting the operating system and the IBM SNA Client
    service has started the following message is reported in the
    event log:

    Source:  IBM SNA Client Services
    ID: 260
    MSG: Unable to read the "First Counter" value Status codes
    returned in data.
    **************************************************************
    
    Verification Steps:
    Under the registry path key:
    **************************************************************
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\IBM SNA
    Client Services\Performance\
    **************************************************************
    the following parameters will not exist:
    First Counter
    First Help
    Last Counter
    Last Help

Local fix

  • A batch script is available that will execute the appropriate
    commands to register the aforementioned parameters into the
    registry.
    
    Download the provided zip file containing a readme file and
    batch script via the following location:

    ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/csnt/fixes/v640/addCSPerf
    Monitors.zip
    ****************************************************************
    
    The addCSPerfMonitors.zip file contains the
    addCSPerfMonitors.bat script.
    
    Usage:
    
    addCSPerfMonitors.bat Lang_String
    
    Where Lang_String should be one of these:
    chs cht deu enu esp fra ita jpn kor ptb
    

Problem summary

  • This error gets logged into the application event log, where
    CS/Windows installer failing to pickup the correct language
    specific performance monitoring file.  So, the registry keys
    for the performance monitoring for IBM SNA Client service is
    missing.
    

Problem conclusion

  • This problem happened, where the language ID is been passed as
    CString instead of string, which caused the comparision to
    fail. This will be fixed in CS/Windows 6.4.0.5 (Fixpack5)
    complete installation.
    

Temporary fix

  • A batch script is available that will execute the appropriate
    commands to register the aforementioned parameters into the
    registry.
