Error description

  • When user trying to start the firststeps.sh program from
    <install root>/profiles/[DMgr]/firststeps/bpm.wbm
    there is an error window:
"Unable to find supported browser - Mozilla Firefox" with
    messages of:
The FirstSteps cannot start. This error typicallyoccurs when a
    supported browser cannot be found.
However, this system has Firefox browser 17.0.7 installed
    (output from command: firefox -version).

Local fix

  • This issue is similar to the one described at BPM technote
#1643517. L2 sugggested customer to edit the
    <install
    root>/profiles/[DMgr]/firststeps/bpm.wbm/launchpad/preferences.s
    h
    to add this line:
    user_pref("security.enablePrivilege.enable_for_tests", true);'
    >>$userprefpath/user.js
and customer is then able to start FristSteps program.

Mozilla Firefox version 15 and later, by default, does not
enable some of the privileges to test the browser function.
This situation causes the Launchpad to fail during the browser
    identification process.
To fix this problem, see 'The IBM Business Process Manager
(BPM) launchpad fails to start with Mozilla Firefox version 15
and later on UNIX-based operating systems' technote:
    http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21643517
This problem is fixed in IBM BPM V8.5 and later versions.
