Error description

  • NullPointerExceptions appear in the logs when a dialog activity
    runs that contains the Send Message e-mail action. A stack trace
    similar to the following appears in the logs:

    This occurs when the e-mail template is a custom JSP e-mail
    template, and the "Send immediately" option is selected in the
    e-mail action.  Depending on the activity flow defined, the
    e-mail may or may not be sent, and the remainder of the dialog
    activity may or may not function correctly.
    

Local fix

  • Do not select the "Send immediately" checkbox in the Send
    Message action, or compose the e-mail template created in
    Management Center
    

Problem summary

  • USERS AFFECTED:
    All WebSphere Commerce version 7 users on Fix Pack 6 OR have
    installed APAR JR41894 and are using custom JSP e-mail templates
    in Management Center dialog activities
    
    PROBLEM ABSTRACT:
    NullPointerException may occur when using the Dialog Activity
    Send Message e-mail action.
    
    BUSINESS IMPACT:
    Marketing e-mails may not  be sent, and dialog activities may
    not run correctly
    
    RECOMMENDATION:
    

Problem conclusion

  • The Send Message e-mail action was fixed so the
    NullPointerException will not be thrown when the e-mail template
    is a custom JSP.
