Error description

  • The oshadmin process take too long to finish  if a bad
    dataset selected in the Director  Dataset Management Tool .
    
    
    
    Problem reproduction steps in detail:
    
    1) Run IBM WebSphere Datastage and QueryStage director in the
    client tier.
    
    2) Select menu Tools(T) > Dataset Management(A), then file-open
    dialog box is appeared.
    
    3) In the file-open dialog-box, select a file which is not a
    dataset-file and which  is over 1MB in size.
    
    
    3) The server process, orchadmin -describe -d -v -l <selected
    filename> will start.
    The orchadmin process will then take tens of minutes to finish.
    
    While orchadmin is running  director client must  wait.
    
    4) When orchadmin process ends, director client shows the  error
    message: 'Unknown error happened  while reading
    record-schema. '
    
    
    5) Click 'OK' on the error message. A blank Dataset
    Management Tool window is shown.

    1) Run IBM WebSphere Datastage and QueryStage director in the
    client tier.
    
    2) Select menu Tools(T) > Dataset Management(A), then file-open
    dialog box is appeared.
    
    3) In the file-open dialog-box, select a file which is not
    dataset-file and which size is over 1MB.
    For example, I tested ascii-text file which size is 1.5MB.
    
    3) The server process, orchadmin -describe -d -v -l <selected
    filename> will start.
    In our environment, orchadmin process normally ended after 12
    minutes.
    During orchadmin running, director client is waiting.
    
    4) When orchadmin process ends, director client show error
    message: 'Unknown error was happen during reading
    record-schema'.
    
    5) Click 'OK' on error message, then, blank Dataset Management
    Tool window is shown.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The patch associated with this APAR will prevent the long wait
    time when a non-dataset file is selected
