Error description

  • Datastage Netezza job aborts with error

When running Netezza connector, job aborts with one of the
    following
    errors:
    .
    1.
    .
       Item #: 1275
       Event ID: 1274
       Timestamp: 2012-02-01 08:37:49
       Type: Fatal
       User Name: dsadm
       Message Id: IIS-CONN-NZ-01007
Message: db_DATE_DIM_ref,0: Failed to create named pipe
    /tmp/p2-etl02.ad.prodcc.net_3235_nzw_0_0. Error code: 2
    (CC_NZPipe::CC_NZPipe, file CC_NZUnixPipe.cpp, line 113)
    .
    2.
    .
       Item #: 87
       Event ID: 97
       Timestamp: 2012-02-02 09:20:57
       Type: Fatal
       User Name: dsadm
       Message Id: IIS-CONN-NZ-01010
Message: db_CAMPAIGN_DIM_load,1: Failed to write to named
    pipe
    /tmp/p2-etl02.ad.prodcc.net_28627_nzw_0_1. Error code: 32
    (CC_NZPipe::write, file CC_NZUnixPipe.cpp, line 318)
    .
    Cause:
The Netezza connector stage creates one named pipe file per job
    Node
per NZ Table. The files are actually created by the
Netezza ODBC drivers. These files are not being removed after
    the job
     run.
The filesystem becomes overwhelmed and access to filesystem is
    timing
out resulting in Datastage job errors

Local fix

  • periodic cleanup of temporary files that are generated

Problem summary

  • Netezza Connector may fail to create the name pipe if a pipe
with the same name already exists. This situation is more common
when jobs are run in a sequence and the OS recycles the process
    IDs.

Problem conclusion

  • Changed to connector to append a timestamp with millisecond
precision to the pipe name to make it more unique.

Install the patch to get this update.

Temporary fix
