Error description
Raised during CRM 49283,L6Q,000 investigations (this CQ itself wasn't the cause of the customers problem). I had installed 7.5, 7.5.2+MCM. When I installed 8.0.1 + MCM it said it was going to upgrade the MCM installed with 7.5.2, which is correct. It installed the 8.0.1 MCM into "C:\Program Files\IBM\DataStage Multi-Client Manager".However, the service entry did not get updated, meaning the old 7.5.2 MCM service is still going to be used. To verify this goto Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services, find "DataStage Multi-Client Manager Service", right click it and select properties. This GUI will show the "path of the executable" that is being run - it should be: "C:\Program Files\IBM\DataStage Multi-Client Manager\ClientSwitcherService.exe" but I still see the old MCM service: "C:\Program Files\Ascential\DataStage Multi-Client Manager\ClientSwitcherService.exe" This needs to be fixed otherwise the new components in 8.0.1 won't get switched over correctly (however this is not the cause of this customers particular problem). To work around this issue, the customer can execute the following to remove the old MCM service entry and install the new MCM service entry (the user running these commands will need to be an administrator user, and they will need to close the Services window from Control Panel before attempting this): cd "C:\Program Files\IBM\DataStage Multi-Client Manager" ClientSwitcherService.exe /uninstall ClientSwitcherService.exe /install

Problem summary
**************************************************************** USERS AFFECTED: Only occurs when upgrading an existing Multi-Client Manager tool with the 8.0.1 version. **************************************************************** PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: If an older version of the Multi-Client Manager tool exists on a system, the 8.0.1 installation of the Multi-Client Manager will not upgrade the entry in the Windows Server Manager to point to the new Multi-Client Manager service. This can cause failures to switch between different client versions. To verify this go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services, find "DataStage Multi-Client Manager Service", right click it and select properties. This GUI will show the "path of the executable" that is being run - it should be: "C:\Program Files\IBM\DataStage Multi-Client Manager\ClientSwitcherService.exe" but it will still point to the old MCM service: "C:\Program Files\Ascential\DataStage Multi-Client Manager\ClientSwitcherService.exe" **************************************************************** RECOMMENDATION: If affected by this problem use the workaround to correct the Windows Server Entry ****************************************************************
