Error description

  • Error Message: The Java VM will print the following error
message if a core dump is generated:
Error in System dump: The core file created by child process
with pid = <#pid> was not found. Expected to find core file with
    name "<HAT>00/
    usr/libexec/abrt-hook-ccpp /var/spool/abrt <#pid> ..."
    .
    Stack Trace: N/A
    .

Local fix

  • abrt can be disabled by running (as root)
    service abrtd stop

Problem summary

  • Linux RHEL6 allows the /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern to start
with a Unix pipe (<HAT>00) character to indicate that the core
file is to be redirected to an external command. In this case
the Java VM is unable to locate and process the core dump.

Problem conclusion

  • This defect will be fixed in:
    6.0.0 SR9
    5.0.0 SR12 FP2
    .
The Java VM has been updated to look for a default core file
    name, typically core.<#pid>.
    .
    To obtain the fix:
    Install build 20100924 or later

Temporary fix
