IZ81205: JAVA COMPILER PRODUCES 'NO UNIQUE MAXIMA INSTANCE EXISTS' ERROR.

Error description

  • Error Message: While compiling the testcase, customer seems to
    be getting the below error :-
    GenericTest2.java:23: type parameters of <T>T cannot be
    determined; no unique maximal instance exists for type variable
    T with upper bounds T,java.lang.Object
            return readObject(new ObjectInputStream(new
    FileInputStream(file)));

    As per customer, the Java file seems to be compiled properly
    when compiled in Eclipse.
    

Local fix

Problem summary

  • The issue seems to be happening as Inference was failing for
    type variable return constraint and hence javac throws error.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The JVM was updated properly to handle type variable return
    constraint.
    This defect will be fixed in:
    6.0.0 SR9
