IZ80951: JIT-COMPILED METHOD SHOWS INCORRECT BEHAVIOUR ON Z/LINUX

Error description

  • Error Message: A Java method that casts a long value into a byte
    and then stores the byte into a byte array, when it is
    JIT-compiled, can sometimes store an incorrect value into the
    array.
    This problem affects both Java 5 and Java 6, but only on z/OS or
    z/Linux.

Local fix

  • This is no workaround for this issue except to disable the
    compilation of the affected method with the -Xjit:exclude={...}
    option.
    

Problem summary

  • The problem is caused by a bug in the z/Architecture code
    generator of the JIT compiler.
    

Problem conclusion

  • This defect will be fixed in:
    6.0.0 SR8
    5.0.0 SR12
    .
    The JIT compiler has been updated to correct the issue.

    To obtain the fix:
    Install build 20100227 or later
