Error description

  • Problem:
    A getAlgorithm() call on a SecretKey object will return an
    abbreviated short name and the
    same call on KeyGenerator will return the full name.

    Customer is requesting that IBM JCE be modified so that
    key.getAlgorithm() returns full algorithm name as opposed to
    abbreviated version.
    

Local fix

  • Level 3 to update
    

Problem summary

  • KeyGenereator.getAlgorithm doesn't match SecretKey.getAlgorithm
    for highers SHAs on Hmac
    

Problem conclusion

  • Affects ibmjceprovider.jar.  Hursley defect 167919.  Likely
    available in 5.0 SR12 FP2 and 6.0 SR9.
