Local fix
Problem summary
When J9VM is requesting a new encoding module through iconv() function family, a switch must be made from J9VM thread to the IPT (Initial Program Thread) to load the requested module into LE. Under CICS, IPT returns after completing JVM creation and discards its LE context . A JVM thread wakes up for logging purposes. It invokes an iconv call (ie character conversion of some kind) which triggers a switch to IPT as the requested encoding module is not represent in LE. In this situation, since IPT no longer holds a valid LE context, a crash occurs.
Problem conclusion
This defect will be fixed in: 5.0.0 SR12 6.0.0 SR9 . The JVM has been updated to "pre-load" the UTF-8 character encoding module at JVM initialization time when a IPT is present.
