Error description
Error Message: The JVM will not launch if the path to the jre directory contains Chinese characters. Stack Trace: N/A . This problem can be reproduced as follows: 1. Set the Windows machine locale to Simplified Chinese 2. Install WAS 61 GM onto a folder named in Simplified Chinese When attempting to install UPDI into a folder named in Simplified Chinese, the install panel will show that UPDI installed successfully; however, UPDI will not launch after clicking "Finish". Further: 1. the install UPDI log.txt will show INCONSUCCESS. 2. Attemps to run versionInfo.bat under <UPDI_HOME>\bin will indicate that the Java Virtual Machine can not be set up.
Local fix
Rename directories such that all directory names in the path to jre contain English characters only.
Problem summary
Translations were not performed between unicode and UTF formats.
Problem conclusion
This defect will be fixed in: 5.0.0 SR5 . Source code updated to perform appropriate translations between unicode and multibyte (UTF) formats. . To obtain the fix: Install build 20070307 or later
Temporary fix
An I-Fix is available on Java 5.0 SR4.
