IV99785: CRASH IN DAA API COMPILED CODE

Error description

• Error Message: A segmentation fault is raised by JVM with
  vmState=0x00000000 in a compiled Java DataAccessAccelerator API
  method.
  .
  Stack Trace: N/A
  .
  This problem only affects z Systems using the Data Access
  Accelerator API. Specifically, it affects the
  convertPackedDecimalToInteger() and convertPackedDecimalToLong()
  if the input packed decimal has a non-constant precision. The
  Program Status Word (PSW) will point to an EXRL instruction.
  

Local fix

• This problem can be avoided with
  -Xjit:disableVariablePrecisionDAA
  

Problem summary

• The JIT compiler generates specific instructions for the DAA API
  to handle non-constant precision inputs during packed decimal to
  integer/long conversions. This sequence can break when the Java
  stack becomes very large and large offsets must be used for
  address calculation. If this happens then it will always result
  in a segmentation error on an EXRL instruction.
  

Problem conclusion

• The JIT compiler has been updated to generate a correct sequence
  of instructions for non-constant precision packed decimal to
  integer/long conversion.
