Error description

  • Error Message: a 0C7 Data Exception or Decimal Overflow
generated by a Binary Coded Decimal instruction causes the JVM
    to terminate.
    .
    Stack Trace: N/A
    .
This problem only affects z Systems running z/OS

Local fix

  • If the -Xrs Java command line option is used, then the DAA
optimization also needs to be explicitly turned off using
    -Xjit:disableIntrinsics

Problem summary

  • The Data Access Acceleration (DAA) optimization requires
complete JVM signal handling functionality. The -Xrs option
reduces the JVM's signal handling capabilities. -Xrs should
implicitly turn off DAA but it was discovered that this was not
the case. The result is that if -Xrs is used and DAA is invoked,
then it is possible that a DAA instruction could generate an
interrupt which the JVM cannot handle under -Xrs and thus the
interrupt causes the JVM to unexpectedly terminate.

Problem conclusion

  • The JIT compiler has been updated so that -Xrs does turn off
    DAA.
