Error description

  • ************************ APAR Template
    *************************
    *===============================================================
    ========
    Environment:

      5724C04MS Tivoli Enterprise Management Server 6.30 FP6

    Severity: 3

Problem Description: HUB TEMS may output 'false' occurrences
of the RAS1 message of the following format ==>
    ~ ~ ~ ~
***ERROR: for RRN <3931>, (oldest) Index TS <garbage_data >
    does not
    match TSITSTSH TS <1160704132623084>
    ~ ~ ~ ~

These 'false' messages are benign. In spite of the 'false'
    error
messages, the intended functional behavior of the code is
    performing
    correctly.

    Detailed Recreation Procedure:
This is a regression introduced by APAR IV67076.

The 'false' messages are caused by a simple variable
    initialization
error in a memset() statement. There is zero risk to correcting
this memset() statement. If the TEMS builds successfully on all
supported platforms, there will be no risk exposure.

This APAR needs to be included in 6.30 FP7 to eliminate PMR
penetration/volume. L2 reports at least 5 or 6 PMRs, based on
this error messages, have been handled by L2 in recent months.

It is ironic that an new RAS1 message was added as a 'just in
    case' for
a condition that should never occur, yet an incorrect variable
initialization is actually causing the 'false' occurences of the
    RAS1
    message.

    Work-around: None

    Approver: BEH
Initials of L3 engineer that approved APAR creation

Problem summary

  • IBM Tivoli Monitoring hub enterprise monitoring server may
output 'false' RAS1 messages about TSITSTSH table

These 'false' messages are benign. In spite of the 'false'
error messages, the intended functional behavior of the code is
performing correctly. However, when these 'false' messages
do occur there are large numbers of the message appearing in
    TEMS RAS1 log files.

Here is example of message at issue ==>
    ~ ~ ~
***ERROR: for RRN <1883>, (oldest) Index TS < !m?? >
does not match TSITSTSH TS <1160704131915110>
    ~ ~ ~

Problem conclusion

  • Corrected code that caused 'false' messages to be logged in RAS1
     logs.
