Error description

  • If a Websphere MQ application uses a QALIAS pointing at a TOPIC
from within a distribution list, then a SIGSEGV occurs in a
    WebSphere MQ amqzlaa0 agent process.

An FDC is produced with following information:

                         occurred.

Local fix

  • It is not intended that topics be used with distribution lists
so the workaround is to avoid using distribution lists that
contain QALIAS queues which point to topics.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users of QALIAS queues that point to topics within a
distribution list will be affected by this problem.

    Platforms affected:

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
WebSphere MQ is not designed to support the use of distribution
lists containing QALIAS queues that point to topics. An
omission in the queue manager logic meant that this restriction
was not enforced, which led WebSphere MQ to access a pointer to
    invalid memory.

Problem conclusion

  • The code was corrected so that WebSphere MQ now returns
MQRC_ALIAS_BASE_Q_TYPE_ERROR for a QALIAS pointing to a topic
    object in a distribution list.

The WebSphere MQ documentation will be updated to say that
distribution lists should not contain alias queues which resolve
to topic objects. It will also be updated to say that any
QALIAS pointing to a topic object will return
MQRC_ALIAS_BASE_Q_TYPE_ERROR for that queue in the distribution
    list.
