Problem summary

• The value of a xsl-variable holds a result tree fragment that is
  passed to format-number function where a string argument is
  expected.  While compiling the stylesheet, the XSLT processor
  should have generated code to convert the value to a string
  implicitly, but failed to do that.  That causes the processor to
  throw a TransformerConfigurationException when it shouldn't
  have.
  

Problem conclusion

• Proper Instruction is instantiated and converted to String
  implicitly on format-number function.
