Error description

• ERROR DESCRIPTION:
  Start Center Result Set portlets showing the entire description
  of a work order causing the portlet to become too wide and
  creating scroll bar.
  PROBLEM:
  Start Center result set portlets are showing the entire
  description of a work order causing the portlet to become so
  wide that it is larger than the monitor area.  The description
  length goes off the longest value in the result set, extending
  the portlet where in some cases for the client they must scroll
  the screen to the right to see the entire start center.  The
  desire is that only up to a certain character limit is
  displayed for description type columns, or potentially for it to
  wrap.
  PERFORMANCE ISSUE:
  NO.
  STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
  1. On Work Order app create a record that contains a
  description with 200+ caracters. After that, create a query
  that brings up the record that contains a description with 200
  characaters. Create a Result Set portlet in the Start Center
  with this query. Make sure to add the Description column in the
  portlet.
  2. Have at least 1 work order record where the description
  field is full, for example have description length of 200.
  3. Notice that the description column will run as wide as the
  longest description value, this extends the start center
  portlet to the right. This make working from the Start Center
  much less pleasing and causes the users to scroll to the right
  to view the entire portlet as some of it is now off of their
  screen.  This is increased when a start center has information
  setup on both the left and right sides.
  CURRENT ERRONEOUS RESULT:
  Result set becomes too wide and a scroll bar is created so you
  can read the full description.
  EXPECTED RESULT:
  Wrap the lines.

Problem conclusion

• A new system property, "webclient.shortenportlettext," can be
  set to "true" to truncate the text in portlet columns and
  prevent horizontal scrolling.
