Error description
Error Message: N/A . Stack Trace: N/A . This can only cause problems on z/OS.
Local fix
Problem summary
The JIT compiler allocates some of it's memory on z/OS via STORAGE OBTAIN. Some of this memory was not being released via STORAGE RELEASE upon JVM shutdown. If there are thousands of JVMs being started and shutdown within the same address space, then the address space can eventually run out of memory causing an 878 ABEND.
Problem conclusion
The JIT compiler has been updated to release all memory allocated with STORAGE OBTAIN upon JVM shutdown. . This APAR will be fixed in the following Java Releases: 7 R1 SR3 FP10 (7.1.3.10) 8 SR1 FP10 (8.0.1.10) . Contact your IBM Product's Service Team for these Service Refreshes and Fix Packs. For those running stand-alone, information about the available Service Refreshes and Fix Packs can be found at: https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/
