• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Error Message: An Illegal Instruction Exception is raised when
  executing a compiled method which does UTF16 Encoding.
  .
  Stack Trace: N/A
  .
  This problem only affects z Systems hardware generations which
  are older than z196.
  

Local fix

• This issue can be worked around by using the JVM option,
  -Xjit:disableZGryphon
  Note that this can affect performance.
  Alternatively, the problematic method can be excluded from
  compilation using the following JVM option,
  -Xjit:exclude={complete_method_description}
  Note that this can affect performance.
  

Problem summary

• This problem is caused by the JIT compiler selecting an
  instruction on pre-z196 hardware which is only supported on z196
  and later hardware.
  

Problem conclusion

• The JIT compiler has been updated to only generate the
  problematic instruction on z196 or later hardware.
