APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Error Message: An intermittent SIGSEGV/GPF is recieved, with
vmState 0x00040000, when running certain Java workloads,
particularly Eclipse-based workloads.

Stack Trace: N/A

Problem is highly intermittent

Local fix

  • The disableShrinkWrapping option can be added to -Xjit options.

Problem summary

  • The JIT compiler's "shrinkwrapping" optimization could
occasionally generate code that would fail to save and restore a
machine register when reusing that register for another purpose.

Problem conclusion

  • The JIT compiler has been modified not to perform the
problematic optimization.

   6 R1 SR8 FP4   (6.1.8.4)
   7 R1 SR3       (7.1.3.0)
