• Error Message: Unhandled exceptionType=Segmentation error
  vmState=0xffffffff or JVMJ9VM011W Unable to load ... DLL module
  not found
  .
  The following messages are issued when executing
  java -version
  JVMJ9VM011W Unable to load -0-EDC5205S DLL module not found
   and messages
  Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
  Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.
   when envar JAVA_COMPILER is set to null.
   export JAVA_COMPILER=""
  

Local fix

• Unset these environment variables or set them to have a
  non-empty value.
  

Problem summary

• The Java VM does not handle null values on certain environment
  variables during startup.
  

Problem conclusion

• The Java VM ignores these environment variables if they have
  empty values.
