APAR status

Error description

  • Error Message: ASSERTION FAILED ** at
    LargeObjectAllocateStats.cpp:<xxxx>: ((false && (sizeClassIndex
    < _tlhAllocSizeClassStats._maxSizeClasses)))
    or
    Unhandled exceptionType=Segmentation error vmState=0x0002000f

    The issue only occurs when using the command line option
    -Xgc:tlhMinimumSize=<xxxx> and the value specified exceeds
    512.The issue only occurs when using the gencon GC policy.
    

Local fix

  • Discontinue use of the -Xgc:tlhMinimumSize=<xxxx> command line
    option, or specify all of the following
    options:-Xgc:tlhMinimumSize=<xxxx>
    -Xgc:tlhSurvivorDiscardThreshold=<yyyy>
    -Xgc:tlhTenureDiscardThreshold=<zzzz>such that both zzzz and
    yyyy are greater than or equal to xxxx.
    

Problem summary

  • The problem is caused by the JVM mistakenly using the value of
    tlhMinimumSize instead of tlhSurvivorDiscardThreshold and
    tlhTenureDiscardThreshold in certain cases.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The JVM has been updated to correctly to use the values of
    tlhSurvivorDiscardThreshold and tlhTenureDiscardThreshold in all
    cases.

    This APAR will be fixed in the following Java Releases:
       7 R1 SR2       (7.1.2.0)
       7    SR8       (7.0.8.0)
       6 R1 SR8 FP2   (6.1.8.2)
