APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Error Message: A variable acquires an incorrect value.  Many
symptoms are possible, but most likely outcome is a crash with
vmState=0x00000000.  On x86 it can manifest as a
NullPointerException reported from an impossible location in the
source code.

Local fix

  • -Xjit:disableGlobalCopyPropagation

Problem summary

  • A JIT optimization (global copy propagation) transforms the code
incorrectly when propagating a register-allocated value from one
location to another location within the same extended basic
block.

Problem conclusion

  • This APAR will be fixed in the following Java Releases:
   7 R1 SR1       (7.1.1.0)
.
The optimization has been changed so it does not perform this
transformation.  (This transformation is already performed
correctly by another optimization anyway.)
