Error Message: When JDK tries to retrieve network interface names on a zOS system which has DYNAMICXCF configured, fails with SocketException. . Stack Trace: Exception in thread "main" java.net.SocketException: EDC5138I No such device or address. at java.net.NetworkInterface.getAll(Native Method) at java.net.NetworkInterface.getNetworkInterfaces(NetworkInterface. java:345) .
Local fix
Problem summary
The JDK on zOS uses a network interface card names of 16 bytes length (including null string terminator) where as another network application in zOS , DynamicXCF expect the network interface cardname of 17 bytes (which is 16 bytes excluding the null string terminator).
Problem conclusion
This APAR will be fixed in the following Java Releases: 6 SR16 (6.0.16.0) 7 R1 SR1 (7.1.1.0) 6 R1 SR8 (6.1.8.0) 7 SR7 (7.0.7.0) . The JDK has been updated to allow network interface card names upto 17 bytes on zOS platform.
