APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Error Message: N/A
    .
    Stack Trace: N/A
    .
The default size of raw class data area of the shared class
cache is incorrectly calculated and ends up being too small for
    a large cache.

Local fix

  • Use the -Xshareclasses:rcdSize=<size> Java command line option
to force the raw class data size to a particular value.

Problem summary

  • The raw class data area size is incorrectly calculated for large
    cache sizes.
For example, with -Xscmx90M the size is calculated as 42,299,392
but for -Xscmx120M its calculated as the smaller value
    13,508,608.
A cache size larger than 90 MB will not be calculated correctly.

Problem conclusion

  • This APAR will be fixed in the following Java Releases:
       7 SR7 (7.0.7.0)
       6 R1 SR8 (6.1.8.0)
    .
The JVM has been updated to perform the size calculation
    correctly.
