Error description

  • Error Message: On z/OS, when the -Xascii_filetag option is
enabled, javacore files are tagged as ASCII. This can be seen
    via the "ls -T" command:
     t ISO8859-1 T=on javacore.20130903.123633.67110479.0001.txt
This is incorrect, as the file contents are in EDCDIC.
    .

    .

Local fix

  • The javacore file tag can be reset manually by using the chtag
    command.

Problem summary

  • The problem was caused by the JVM tagging all files as ASCII,
even those which were actually written in EBCDIC.

Problem conclusion

  • This defect will be fixed in:
    7.0.0 SR6
    6.0.1 SR7
    .
The JVM has been updated so that javacore files are not tagged
as ASCII. They are left untagged.
