Error description
Error Message: On z/OS, when the -Xascii_filetag option is enabled, javacore files are tagged as ASCII. This can be seen via the "ls -T" command: t ISO8859-1 T=on javacore.20130903.123633.67110479.0001.txt This is incorrect, as the file contents are in EDCDIC. . Stack Trace: N/A .
Local fix
The javacore file tag can be reset manually by using the chtag command.
Problem summary
The problem was caused by the JVM tagging all files as ASCII, even those which were actually written in EBCDIC.
Problem conclusion
This defect will be fixed in: 7.0.0 SR6 6.0.1 SR7 . The JVM has been updated so that javacore files are not tagged as ASCII. They are left untagged.
