IV46140: UNABLE TO MOVE AN ASSET BACK TO AN OLD SITE IF THERE IS A DECOMMISSIONED LOCATION ON THE DECOMMISSIONED ASSET RECORD

APAR status

Error description

  • client Environment: 7.1..18
    
    replicated in 7.1.1.8 , 7.1.1.12, 7.5.0.4 with the latest IFix
    
    steps:
    set default insert site to BEDFORD
    bring up asset 7100 that belongs to location ADDR2001
    click Move/Modify icon on the toolbar
    Move the asset to MCLEAN site
    system message comes up: BMXAA0067I - Asset 7100 in site
    BEDFORD was
    moved successfully.
    go to location application, bring up location ADDR2001
    change the status to DECOMMISSIONED
    
    change default profile to MCLEAN site
    bring up asset 7100 in MCLEAN site
    click Move/Modify icon on the toolbar
    move asset back to Bedford site, select a different location
    e.g. BOILER
    GET error message:
    BMXAA0080E - Status cannot be changed from Decommissioned
    because asset
    7100 is in a decommissioned location ADDR2001.
    BMXAA0080E - Status cannot be changed from Decommissioned

    7100 is in a decommissioned location ADDR2001.

Local fix

  • here is a simple workaround for this issue but our client think
    its not acceptable.
    
    workaround: need to change the status of the decommissioned
    location to active
    
    
    Business case: I think the solution here is poorly designed. I
    should never have to move an asset back to a site or change the
    status of something to correct an issue. The system should
    either delete the associated assets when decommissioning a
    location or allow me to move an asset back to an original site
    even though the old record is associated to a decommissioned
    location. Thanks.
