Error description

  • Product: Tivoli Network Manager
    Version: 3.9.0.68, 3.9.0.72
    Component: Memory Usage Report

    The "Memory usage report" uses the incorrect policy.
    The code, and consequently the documentation are incrrect as the
    "Memory usage report" does not depend on stored data from the
    CiscoMemoryPool policy.

    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v8r1/index.jsp
    ?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.networkmanagerip.doc_3.9%2Fitnm%2Fip%2Fwip%2Fr
    ef%2Freference%2Fnmip_ref_report_memoryusage.html

    The "Memory usage report" uses the memoryPoll policy. To enable
    the policy:
    The in context tool for launching the report also references the
    CiscoMemoryPool;
    $PRECISION_HOME/profiles/TIPProfile/etc/tnm/tools/ncp_memory_usa
    ge_report.xml
    <snip>
    <parameter name="p_PollDefinition" valueType="text"
    text="ciscoMemoryPool"/>
    </snip>

Local fix

  • Mitigation
    Alter the ncp_memory_usage_report.xml file to point to the
    memoryPoll policy definition:
    the line that reads
    <parameter name="p_PollDefinition" valueType="text"
    text="ciscoMemoryPool"/>

    .. so that it reads

    <parameter name="p_PollDefinition" valueType="text"
    text="memoryPoll"/>

    Note that in 3.9.0.49 the p_Polldefinition text reads
    ciscoMemoryPoll, not Pool.

Problem conclusion

  • The tool file
    $PRECISION_HOME/profiles/TIPProfile/etc/tnm/tools/ncp_memory_usa
    ge_report.xml had the wrong policy name. It was updated to use
    memoryPoll that stores data on database.

    The following topic in the documentation will be corrected to
    state memoryPoll instead of ciscoMemoryPool as a prerequisite to
    the "Memory usage report":
