APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Error Message: The Java virtual machine (JVM) crashes with a
    SIGSEGV. Other symptoms include application hang or wrong
    output. This only happens with Java 6.0.1 or Java 7 on systems
    equipped with the high-word facility (z196 or newer).

Local fix

  • The -Xjit:disableHighWordRA,diableHighWordGRA option will work
    around the problem.
    

Problem summary

  • The problem is caused by an issue in the high-word register
    allocator which generates incorrect register exchange sequences
    in the JIT-compiled code.
    

Problem conclusion

  • This defect will be fixed in:
    6.0.1 SR5
    7.0.0 SR4
    .
    The JIT compiler has been updated to fix the register allocation
    problem.
