APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Error Message: When using JVM application trace via the
com.ibm.jvm.Trace API and printing it to the console with
-Xtrace:print the application in the output name has one or more
junk characters appended to the end.
    .
    Stack Trace:
    .
The application name registered with trace was 16 characters or
    longer.

Local fix

  • The trace points can be written to a trace file and formatted
offline instead of printed out directly. Alternatively the
length of the application name registered can be shortened.

Problem summary

  • The problem is caused when the application name is longer than
the size of the space intended for displaying it in the
formatted trace point output of -Xtrace:print.

Problem conclusion

  • This defect will be fixed in:
    7.0.0 SR3
    6.0.1 SR4
    .
The JVM has been updated to correctly handle long application
names when printing out trace points.
