IV27272: UA WINDOWS 7:NO IP ADAPTER FOUND, DISABLES SNMP DATA PROVIDER

IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.2.3 Fix Pack 3 (6.2.3-TIV-ITM-FP0003)

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• On Windows 2007, Universal Agent fails to start the SNMP data
  provider
   when SNMP Network Discovery is enabled. Universal Agent code
  fails to
   parse the ipconfig output on a Windows 7 system correctly.
  
   The agent RAS1 log has the following messages
  kumsrlni.c,754,"KUMS_RetrieveLocalNetworkInfo") No IP adapter
   specification found, errno 32
  
   kumssnmp.c,222,"KUMS_SNMPmanagerTask") *****Error!
   No local network configuration information found on
  <MXL20333WG>. SNMP
   DP functions cannot be performed.
  
   Detailed Recreation Procedure:
  
   1. Edit <install_dir>\tmaitm6\KUMENV and set the below
  variables.
      A. Enable the SNMP data provider by adding SNMP to
   KUMA_STARTUP_DP
      KUMA_STARTUP_DP=SNMP
   B. Enable SNMP Network discovery by setting
      KUMP_SNMP_NET_DISCOVERY=Y
      KUMP_SNMP_NET_DISCOVER_ENTERPRISE=Y
   2. Start Universal Agent.
  
   3. Agent fails to start the SNMP provider.
  
   Detailed RAS1 trace can be obtained using below trace level in
  KUMENV
   file.

Problem summary

• Universal Agent on Windows 7 with no IP adapter found, disables
  SNMP Data Provider.
  
  
  No SNMP traps can be received because SNMP Data Provider can not
  find an IP adapter and eventually fails with messages:
  
  kumssnmp.c,222,"KUMS_SNMPmanagerTask") *****Error! No local
  network configuration information found on
  <w.x.y.z>.  SNMP DP functions cannot be performed.
  kumssnmp.c,575,"KUMS_SNMPmanagerTask") >>>>> SNMP Manager

Problem conclusion

• Logic parsing IP adapter address from 'ipconfig /ALL' output was
   using incorrect pointer.
  
  The fix for this APAR is included in the following maintenance
